Now the polling stations open in France

Despite France advancing in the football European Championship, the mood in the country has been anything but good in recent days.

Since the first round of elections a week ago, the contradictions have increased in France. In reportage after reportage, people testify to an increased concern, to threats and hatred. Several politicians have been attacked while out on the town.

Many voters have abandoned the political center for one of the extremes, and in the second election round the National Assembly (RN) is now pitted against the New People’s Front (NFP), which is a coalition of several parties on the left.

Hard to get a majority

According to an opinion poll published by the French public service company Franceinfo on Friday, neither the RN nor the left-wing alliance New People’s Front (NFP) will get a majority – which further complicates the parliamentary situation in France.

RN party leader Jordan Bardella has said on several occasions that he does not want to become prime minister unless the RN gets a majority. And if there is no government in place, decisions will not be made in the national assembly either
