The large group ate and drank for just over SEK 82,000 at the restaurant in Malmö.

When it was time to pay, everyone had fled in taxis.

Now it is clear that the man behind the bill is a well-known prankster who has been convicted of 87 frauds, reports Sydsvenskan.

It was during Christmas Eve that the party of a total of 35 people enjoyed both food and drink packages at the restaurant in central Malmö. The bill landed at SEK 82,157, but when it came time to pay for the party, they got up from the table, walked out the door and left the restaurant in several taxis.

The police were alerted to the restaurant shortly after eleven o’clock in the evening and shortly afterwards were able to stop one of the taxis a few kilometers from the scene. There were three people in it – a 35-year-old woman and two children – who are suspected of being part of the party. Together with a 42-year-old man, they are now suspected of fraud.

It’s not the first time, it turns out. According to Sydsvenskan, the 42-year-old has been sentenced to prison in six rounds – including for fraud against 87 different people. It concerns, for example, the sale of things online, where the man has paid for goods that the buyers have since never received.

The man has explained his actions by saying that he has debts due to gambling addiction and is in need of quick money.
