Reply to Stefan Hallin (26/5): Should not you demolish the town hall as well?
Michael Lundbohm, Killeberg

Answer to Svante Janson (25/5): Germany has also reduced the energy tax on fossil fuels, the reduction corresponds to just over three kroner a liter for petrol.

I’m amazed that there is so much whining and barking at the police passport control. Sure, it can certainly go a little smoother, but is it really the police’s fault that people suddenly realize that they do not have a passport at the same time? Is it really the police’s fault that people book a trip and check if the passport is valid the night before departure, or that people are unable to be foresighted and arrange passports on time? There has been and continues to be a pandemic since 2020 when no one was able to travel. You have had two years on you. Think of another round. Is it really the police’s fault?

If you want to arouse public opinion and for people to listen to your message, then maybe you should not run onto the pitch during a football match or glue yourself to a street corner. It gives no respect whatsoever to either the message or you as the performer. Tightening if you want to be heard! As it is now, no one cares what you say.

Ewa Stenberg writes (DN 25/5) that “The Center Party has a clear center position, but no direction anymore”. If you interpret it literally, each direction means that you leave your clear middle position. C is, in short, a concrete middle section. In addition, a phenomenon or activity without direction, without movement, is dead. Hans Rosén writes (DN 26/5) that the support in C for Annie Lööf’s philosophy of staying away from the outer edge parties is weakening. Finally! I think. Because even if V and SD are logically outer edge parties – there is nothing outside them – V is not as much left as SD is right. If SD is sometimes called right-wing populist, you can hardly call V left-wing populist. If you also look 50 years back in time, you will find that the then S is clearly to the left of the current V.

How can the West continue to allow Vladimir Putin to murder the people of Ukraine? Who gave the President of Russia the right to start a war against a peaceful neighbor? Now the gunmen Lukashenko and Erdogan are joining Putin and helping him in his insane war. The Western world must act quickly and with greater force against this and block and isolate Belarus and Turkey in the same way as it does with Russia. Unless Putin is forced into a loss in this war that he has unjustifiably started alone, no country in Europe can feel secure.
Sven Jansson, Stockholm

Never has the world felt so insecure. Not for long anyway. We are constantly bombarded by horrific events. I hoped that Sweden would not join NATO. It is difficult to understand that one chooses to join a military alliance and feel secure when it comes to more power, more proliferation, more threats and ever-increasing armaments, especially as our entire planet is already crammed with weapons. Still, Magdalena Andersson hugs Joe Biden and is happy to be a part of it. I have never been so disappointed in a Prime Minister as this time. I was so happy and hopeful when we got a female prime minister – now it would be different. Now school and healthcare would be given priority. Now we would move towards peace and disarmament. Instead, Sweden breaks its freedom of alliance – with a female prime minister and a female foreign minister! Poor all children and young people.

When booking a ticket on Flixbus, I received the answer that the payment did not go through. Tried to reach the company both via chat and phone, but after no response I tried again after 30 minutes and then it worked. But then I suddenly saw that I had two bookings of SEK 1,248 each. I canceled one and of course thought that their customer service would understand that you deliberately do not book two tickets for one person on the same bus, the same time and the same distance. But no, Flixbus never pays back money. And when you read reviews about the company, you see that more people have been cheated in the same way. How can such a company be allowed to run? There is no other alternative on the Gällivare – Ritsem section. Boycott Flixbus!

Malmö FF and FC Rosengård each won the cup final after the two roughest referee mistakes I have ever seen. Hammarby should have been awarded a penalty in the final minute and had thus probably won. Rosengård’s 2-1 goal would never have been approved as neither the referee nor the line judge could see that the ball was over the line. Tragic for Hammarby and Häcken! And how can the Malmö team look forward to winning in this deeply unfair way? They should apologize, and the judges should be suspended for indefinite misconduct.

The abortion issue is back on the agenda in the United States. Opponents of abortion want to claim the sanctity of life. They would have all the credit for their commitment if it were not for the fact that at the same time they want us to go armed with the intention of shooting each other to death. It is often the same people who think the death penalty is good. The sanctity of life should not be asserted here. The culture of violence in the United States is supported mainly by Republicans with a flabby backbone. Their re-election campaigns are supported by the resourceful arms lobby. There are one hundred thousand more weapons in the United States than the entire population of the country. This circumstance killed almost an entire elementary school class in its safe classroom.

Now they want to demand that able-bodied immigrants should work and support themselves and not just live on benefits. Shouldn’t that also apply to Swedes?
Olov Furberg, Järfälla

European countries would save a lot of money if they closed down their defense and foreign ministries. After all, Washington handles defense and foreign policy here in Europe. And the Americans take good care of us, we would not be able to do without them – they protect us from terrorists and the Russian desire for expansion. Our heads of government and presidents are also, in principle, superfluous, but of course they also have a symbolic function, much like the royal houses. Both the public service and the private media companies could also save a lot of money if all the news and political analyzes were produced in the United States. CNN, the New York Times and the Washington Post are perfectly fine enough to inform us about what’s going on in the world. They are impartial, serious and reliable. What are we going to do with hundreds of other newsrooms and editorial pages? Translators could do the same job at a much better price.
Arne Hultgren, Stockholm

Anyone seen any activity on dandelions and lilacs this spring? On Timotejgatan in Stockholm, for example, there are plenty of flowering shrubs, but there is no activity among the clusters. No bees, no bumblebees, no insects. That’s worrying. It is the same in other, equally quiet areas. No visible life among flowers and leaves. Who knows, we may not get any beautiful parks and gardens next year.
Bibi Öhrlund, Stockholm
