Norwegian Tesla crashed in the sea – saved by sauna raft

Norwegian Tesla crashed in the sea saved by sauna

It was last Thursday that a Tesla Model 3 ended up in the sea and sank at Akershusstranda in central Oslo, reports World Gang.

The water in the Oslo Fjord is not particularly warm during any part of the year, but now in early February the temperature is not far above zero degrees. The risk of quickly becoming chilled is therefore great.

Fortunately, the Tesla driver and his passenger were quickly picked up by a crew on a nearby sauna raft, which was in the middle of the sauna when the accident occurred.

Sauna raft with outboard motor

Cellphone footage taken by stunned onlookers shows the driver and passenger climbing out of the car and onto its roof. However, the car quickly begins to sink and soon disappears beneath the surface.

Fortunately, the sauna raft, which is equipped with a small outboard motor, was able to quickly come to the rescue.

– One of the guests came running and alerted me that a car had fallen into the water. Then I went full throttle towards the people who came climbing out of the car, said the sauna raft’s skipper, 26-year-old Nicholay Nordahl, to VG.

Hit the gas by mistake

The Tesla driver, whose name has not been released, expressed his gratitude to the sauna bathers.

– They actually helped save our lives, he told VG.

According to witnesses at the scene, the Tesla was standing still on the quay before the accident, and then violently accelerated straight over the edge of the quay.

According to the driver, it is about him pressing the gas pedal by mistake, when he thought he had the car in the P position.

With health intact

Both the Tesla driver and his passenger escaped the accident without injury, but were taken to hospital as a precaution.

Their sunken car did not remain too long at the bottom of the Oslofjord, but was later lifted out of the sea by a crane.
