At 84 years old, the exceptional accordionist of chamamé and music “ litoralena », Raúl Barboza releases a new single, in preview of the album created with the composer and multi-instrumentalist virtuoso Daniel Díaz.

The idea for the album was born during the pandemic. Barboza and Díaz are Argentinian musicians who have lived in Paris for decades and have worked together on a number of projects and gigs before. In addition, they are neighbors, and in the moments when traffic began to be allowed, this proximity was an advantage to give rise to a series of creative exchanges, improvisations and musical research.

Between the two of us, new sounds began to appear. The music of the bass and other instruments gave me ideas for the accordion. I always try to look for the unexpected, and that’s how a whole repertoire was born », explains Raúl Barboza. The result is a truly collaborative project, in which the musicians managed to combine two different ways of working in the studio, two languages and two vocabularies.

On the one hand, Raúl Barboza, undisputed accordionist who fuses chamamé with other styles, guided by his curiosity and his musicality. Born in Buenos Aires, of parents from Corrientes, he stood out from his childhood for his ability to play the accordion. At the age of 25, he was part of Ariel Ramírez’s company, with which he toured the whole country. Later, he moved to France and, on the recommendation of Ástor Piazzolla, he began to spread chamamé outside Argentina, thus becoming the ambassador of “litoraleña” music in Europe. Throughout his career he has worked with great artists such as Mercedes Sosa, Cesaria Evora, Atahualpa Yupanqui, Richard Galliano, Marcel Azzola, Daniel Colin, Marc Perrone, Daniel Tuveri, among others.

On the other hand, the universe of composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Daniel Díaz, born of an eclectic and cosmopolitan career that began in Buenos Aires and continued in Paris. Highlighting his versatility (jazz, latin, rock, classical, electronic), he has performed live and in the studio as a guest musician (bass, double bass, guitar and keyboards) with prestigious artists such as Elise Caron, Magik Malik, Minino Garay & Anga Diaz, Francis Lalanne, Renaud, Juan Carlos Caceres, Jorge Chamine, Miguel Angel Estrella, Teresa Berganza, Cuarteto Cedron, etc. He has also developed a solo career playing jazz and experimental music.
