Nike, Kering and Ganni winners of the Peta Vegan Fashion Award

Nike Kering and Ganni winners of the Peta Vegan Fashion

A few days before the start of Paris Fashion Week, PETA rewards eleven winners as part of the vegan fashion prize. A way for the association to congratulate the players in the sector who are committed to the animal cause.

The Association for Ethics in the Treatment of Animals (PETA)) presents the list of the eleven winners of the vegan fashion awards 2022. A distinction that aims to reward innovative companies that create a better future for animals. Among the major winners are Nike who was awarded the award for the best collaboration for his collection “Happy Pineapple”. This line of sneakers is made in Piñatexa material made from pineapple leaf fibers, an alternative environmentally friendly which has not escaped PETA.

The organization also chose to reward Ganni by awarding him the price of progress. The Danish label has announced the launch of shoes made from grapes, a way to limit its use of leather in favor of vegan material and take another step towards responsible fashion.

Luxury brands say goodbye to fur

The French luxury group Kering is also honored since it receives the prize for the greatest luxury moment. The reason ? In 2021, Kering decided to remove animal fur from its productions, a measure effective from its fall-winter 2022-2023 collections. The brands Gucci, Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga or even Bottega Veneta are therefore concerned, either some of the biggest houses !

Stella McCartney, Armani, Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, adidas, Midnight on Earth, House of Sunny, Elisabetta Franchi or even the magazine SHE are also among the winners. Through this award ceremony, PETA wishes to highlight the progress made by the various fashion players for the animal cause. “From luxury houses like Gucci to casual sportswear brands like adidas, everyone in fashion is making big strides towards the animal-free future that the entire industry is moving towards.“, says Marie-Morgane Jeanneau, spokesperson for PETA France. “Through these awards, PETA celebrates the designers and brands that help put cruelty to rest and bring vegan fashion to the catwalks.”. It remains to be hoped that they are more and more numerous !
