Big effort at Arlanda – smoke development from aircraft

At 19.17 on Tuesday evening, an alarm about a breakdown came from Arlanda airport, according to the Swedish Civil Aviation Authority and the Maritime and Air Rescue Centre.

Police and emergency services made it to the airport as well as an ambulance helicopter, which circled in the air.

– It is some type of smoke development from an aircraft, says the Stockholm police spokesperson Nayda Norton to The Express.

According to Swedavia, however, it should not be a breakdown.

– It is a warning alarm that has gone off, due to the development of smoke from the engine of a plane that taxied out, says Peter Wärring, press officer at Swedavia to The Express.

The warning alarm means that the pilot detects something wrong and alerts the flight tower, after which the emergency services are called immediately.

It is not yet clear if anyone is injured, but the passengers are said to remain in the aircraft. Why the plane developed smoke is not yet clear.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority, the alarm has been called off, writes The Express.
