New name at the US Embassy

Streets and squares at Russian embassies around the world have changed their name since the war in Ukraine, which in various ways pays homage to the invaded country.

Now Moscow wants to give again. The city council has plans to change the name of a place at the US embassy to “Donbass Defenders’ Square” – referring to Russian soldiers fighting the “Nazi” Russia claims control of the Ukrainian region.

– A really good idea. It would be very good if that happened, comments Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov according to Russian Interfax.

But if the Russian decision-makers had hoped for American anger, they would be disappointed, the embassy’s comment is rather defiant.

“Surprised but not offended by the Russian proposal, which we assume is a tribute to the Ukrainian soldiers who so bravely defend their country from the Kremlin’s aggressions,” the embassy wrote according to The Guardian.
