The best-selling car in Sweden in 2023 was the Tesla Model Y electric car, but how does it look globally?
The analysis firm Focus2Move has compiled a list of which cars sold the best on the global market in 2023.

Electric car took the lead for the first time
The best-selling car globally is the same one that sold best in Sweden, namely the SUV Tesla Model Y, which sold a whopping 1.15 million copies.

The model is one of the most affordable electric cars in its segment, and benefits from Tesla’s brilliant Supercharger network of fast chargers.

Toyota is trending at the top for the time being
In addition to the Tesla rumble, Toyota was, as usual, the most dominant name on the global sales charts, with as many as four models on the top-10 list.
The second best-selling car in the world in 2023 was the Toyota Corolla with 1.13 million units, followed by the Toyota RAV4 with 930,000 units.

Another Japanese brand that made the top 10 list was Honda with its crossover CR-V. So did South Korean Hyundai with the SUV Tucson.
The rest of the cars on the list come from the US, meaning that none of the top ten most popular cars in the world come from Europe.

American pickups continue to sell
At a time when environmental aspects are becoming increasingly important and the cost of living is rising, one would imagine that big, thirsty American-style pickups would lose popularity.
However, this is not the case, as three of the ten best-selling cars in the world are American pickups.

The world’s fourth best-selling car model is the Ford F-series, with 930,000 wagons sold in 2023. The Chevrolet Silverado came in sixth, selling 640,000, while the Ram pickup series sold 520,000 units, coming in at number ten.
This is particularly noteworthy as these models are mainly sold in the domestic market, where they are, however, extremely popular. There, the Ford F-Series, Chevrolet Silverado and Ram pick-up are the top-selling horsepower cars, followed by the Toyota RAV4 and Tesla Model Y, reports Engine1.
