New medieval MMORPG launches open playtest on Steam – Make yourself a saint if you kill enough “Psychos”.

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

The MMORPG Reign of Guilds (Steam) was originally supposed to be released in the first quarter of 2022, but like many games in recent years, it has been struggling with delays. But now you can take part in the second official playtest, for free. We at MeinMMO tell you what’s inside.

What is Reign of Guilds game? The MMORPG focuses on a more classic experience, as one is used to from older representatives of the genre. The game scores with nice graphics and some special twists.

The game is based on classic medieval fantasy, but throws you into the world in first person and delivers action combat instead of old-fashioned tab targeting.

The focus of Reign of Guilds is the conflict between the eponymous guilds. They fight for the more than 60 cities in the game world and the associated control over certain areas.

How does the world work? This also means that open-world PvP is enabled in almost every area of Reign of Guilds. There is a karma system behind it, which in the best case scenario will make you a saint if you stomp enough bad players into the ground. If you prefer to attack defenseless victims, you lose karma and eventually become a “psycho”.

As such, you have a difficult life in the open world of the MMORPG. Because other players don’t lose karma if they execute you. Even worse, you’ll also lose some of your gear and experience if you quit as a bad boy.

What features are included? Finally, Reign of Guilds is said to have some exciting features, including the following:

  • Alliances as well as guild wars with up to 150 players at once
  • Player housing and management of entire cities and estates
  • Dungeons, raids and world bosses
  • 14 different classes, some of which, like the Weaponsmith, focus exclusively on crafting
  • A sophisticated crafting system in which you can build the strongest items yourself
  • First person view for fights, outside of that also 3rd person possible
  • Which payment system is behind it? The MMORPG completely dispenses with direct Pay2Win, but there should also be no “indirect Pay2Win”. The developers mean certain premium features, which are often referred to as Pay2Progress.

In return, Reign of Guilds will be a Pay2Play title, which you will also have to buy. This means that you have to both get the game once and pay a monthly fee to be able to play. Very similar to World of Warcraft.

When can you play Reign of Guilds? The developers have just started the second official playtest for the game. This has been running since February 4th and will remain online until the evening of February 7th.

To enter, all you have to do is go to the MMORPG’s Steam page and click “Request Access”. In our tests, after just a few seconds, we had the confirmation that we would be there and were then able to download the game directly.

Note, however, that this is a very early playtest that will take place before the planned Early Access, so don’t expect a bug-free and polished MMORPG.

If you can’t make it to this playtest, more should follow soon.

When will Reign of Guilds be released? It is currently unclear when the game will actually appear. While Reign of Guilds is getting regular updates on Steam and development appears to be progressing, the game’s website itself hasn’t been touched in a while. There is still talk of a release in 2021.

Early access was originally planned for the first quarter of 2022, but it is also unclear when this should follow. But there is also hope, because the current playtest is already the second in the still young 2023.
