New high tech camera system at Arrowdale

A high-tech security camera system is being moved around the city, according to to a spokesperson but those planning a protest this weekend at the former Arrowdale Golf Course suspect the eyes in the sky will be trained on them.

While a media announcement about the new Gridless Sentry Verkada Security Camera Trailer included a photo of the futuristic, solar powered tower at the Brantford Airport, the unit could be seen at the gateway to Arrowdale on Thursday afternoon.

The system has up to six cameras and is cloud-connected, run by artificial intelligence. It has a battery that allows it to operate for up to two weeks without sun and is mobile enough to be moved around the city.

“Self-powered and simple to use at multiple locations with no infrastructure, power lines or wires required,” says the news release, “the equipment can also be used to monitor job progress on the city’s various construction sites.”

The Arrowdale installation caused some concern on the Facebook page Friends of Arrowdale where people speculated about what the item was for and whether it was directly connected to a protest planned at the gates for Sunday at 2 pm

The city said the gridless sentry is the next step in expanding security guard services to address ongoing incident trends and “specific city properties and areas.”
