New big earthquake in Afghanistan

It was last weekend that the densely populated parts around Herat were initially shaken by two earthquakes, the first with a magnitude of 6.3. Whole villages were reported destroyed and roads – and thus aid – blocked.

Later, several strong aftershocks occurred.

Initially, 2,400 dead were reported, but the Taliban regime later claimed that the number of victims was lower.

According to Save the Children, over 9,000 families were affected by last weekend’s earthquake.
