NEVER give this to your dog – according to the vet: “Fatal poisoning”

NEVER give this to your dog according to the

Dogs can be incredibly quick to gobble things up, both things they feel good about and things they really shouldn’t eat.

News24 have previously written about what you as a dog owner can do if your dog accidentally ingests something inappropriate.

You should do this if the dog has swallowed something inappropriate

According to Catarina Eliasson, who is a licensed veterinarian at Agria, one should, among other things, find out what kind of object it is and how dangerous it is.

– In case of the slightest uncertainty, always contact a veterinarian. There is also often good advice online and today there is also the possibility for pet owners to get fast digital advice such as via Agria, said Catarina Eliasson to Nyheter24 in an interview.

Now Catarina Eliasson shares what you absolutely should not do in such a situation when your dog has swallowed something inappropriate.

Some objects are larger than others and some things dissolve in the stomach, while others can pass through and lodge in the intestine.

– Objects that get stuck in the esophagus can cause dangerous injuries. Wires and cords can be very dangerous if the intestine gets caught on them. Larger amounts of dark chocolate and onions are some examples of poisoning that can be dangerous for dogs, Catarina Eliasson explains to Nyheter24.

That’s how long you should wait before contacting the vet

How long you should wait before seeking help depends entirely on what the dog has swallowed.

– Some poisonings, such as ethylene glycol, require prompt action to prevent fatal poisoning. If it is about an object, you may want to make the dog vomit before the object exits the intestine from the stomach, as a blockage in the intestine requires surgery.

If you only suspect that it is something less toxic or garbage that the dog has ingested, it may be enough to just keep it under observation. But you should always contact a vet for advice first.

You should never give that to your dog

If the dog has ingested something bad – should you try to make it vomit?

– No, you should not do that yourself, but contact a veterinarian who can give agents that make the dog vomit. Salt has previously sometimes been recommended to make a dog vomit, but partly it often fails and partly you run the risk of salt poisoning your dog.

Catarina Eliasson therefore believes that you should never try to give your dog salt when they have swallowed something bad.

– In addition to that, vomiting is not always recommended if there is a suspicion that the foreign object may get stuck in the esophagus or if it involves so-called petroleum products or corrosive agents, she tells Nyheter24.
