Neila Tazi, founder of the Gnaoua Festival in Essaouira: “A popular, free and open festival”

In Morocco, the Gnaoua Festival of Essaouira begins this Thursday evening June 22 with the traditional parade at the end of the day. Nearly 40 concerts are then planned until Sunday with international headliners including the Cuban Eliades Ochoa and at the heart of this festival the Gnawa culture, this ancestral tradition born in Morocco which advocates tolerance and sharing. Neila Tazi is the founder of the Gnaoua Festival. For 25 years, she has been fighting to bring the city of Essaouira to life.
