Shoplifting and pickpocketing figures
Shoplifting increased by 33 percent in 2022 compared to the previous year. The city center has the highest number of shoplifting with an increase of 48 percent. Pickpocketing doubled with a 116 percent increase. In the city center, the number of cases is more than 2.5 times as large as last year (+174 percent), but the station area (Hoog Catharijne, NS and Jaarbeurs) is the most striking. The number of pickpockets there was three times higher than elsewhere in the city.
