National commemoration of deceased police officers in the context of Rob Oostrom’s death: ‘An example for the police and society’

National commemoration of deceased police officers in the context of

Garden of Reflection

Just behind the stately, white castle of Huis ‘t Velde in Warnsveld in Gelderland lies the Garden of Reflection. Every year, the police hold a memorial service here for the relatives and colleagues of police officers who died as a result of violence or an accident. During this day, the flag at police stations in the country is also flown at half-mast.

The memorial ceremony is usually on the second Thursday of June. On the site of the memorial there is a garden and a book where people can leave a thought or memory. The names of deceased police officers are engraved on steel walls in the garden.

The memorial will open in 2006. The garden is located just behind the Koetshuis, which is used by the police academy.
