Muslim community cleans up after the New Year’s celebration in Kalmar

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

– It is important to show love for the country we live in, says Shazib Shahid, youth leader at the Ahmaiyya Muslim community in Kalmar.

For the past 15 years, the Ahmadiyya Muslim community has started the New Year by cleaning up after other people’s festivities in selected locations around the country. This year they are in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Luleå, Malmö and Kalmar.

– We started the day with a prayer at five in the morning and then went out to clean. Out in town, we ran into the municipality’s staff who were shocked, but appreciated that we helped, he says.
