Sweden’s preparedness to cope with supply in a crisis situation must be strengthened.

Now, a government investigation is proposing that MSB be given the responsibility of coordinating supply preparedness.

– Sweden is in one of the most serious security situations since the end of the Second World War, said Carl-Oskar Bohlin (M), Minister of Civil Defence, in connection with receiving an investigation on national coordination of the country’s supply preparedness on Wednesday.

The investigation was established two years ago by the previous government.

– We propose that MSB (the Swedish Agency for Community Safety and Preparedness) should be given responsibility for these issues, says investigator Birgitta Böhlin.

This means, among other things, that MSB will compile a national supply analysis based on analyzes from six different sectors. This applies, for example, to energy supply, food supply and transport.

– The idea is to get prioritized action proposals, says Birgitta Böhlin.

MSB is also proposed to become a point of contact for business.

Carl-Oskar Bohlin says that some of what is proposed will take a long time to implement. Therefore, in the near future, the government will give MSB the task of trying to find a fast track with regard to certain parts.

MSB’s Director General Charlotte Petri Gornitzka welcomes the inquiry’s proposal.

“It is important that the work now gets underway and takes place in collaboration – not least with the business community,” she says in a press release.
