Lava after the eruption near Mount Stora-Skogfell reached walls built to protect against lava north of the town of Grindavik.

Many people were evacuated from Grindavik and the tourist area Blue Lagoon.

The incident, which the authorities described as the “strongest explosion”, was recorded as the 4th explosion in the last 3 months.

After the volcano eruption that occurred in the same area on January 14, the town’s residents were evacuated again because the lava reached Grindavik.
