More than 800 years old, found by chance and still immaculate: this is how the Vleutense sword came into the museum

More than 800 years old found by chance and still

In the 12th century, the Vleutense sword must have hung in the sheath of a knight on horseback. More than 800 years later, it was found in pristine condition at a distance of less than a kilometer from Kasteel de Haar. Now it can be seen in the Hoge Woerd archeology museum, in an exhibition full of objects that were found by chance. “Few medieval swords are still in such good condition as the Vleutense sword.”.
