More Sámi villages plan to sue the state: “It’s gratifying”

Several Sami villages are now following in Girja’s footsteps and suing the state. This after the Reinmarks Committee proposed in its partial report that the state should still permit small game hunting and fishing until 2025 – except when it concerns Sami villages that have won in court.

Unna tjerusj and Baste have grasped it and see a mood as the only possibility going forward.

When SVT Sápmi and Sameradion met Eric M Runesson, chairman of the plains committee earlier this summer, he himself stated that more lawsuits could result from the partial report.

– If you think that you have an exclusive right and the facts that are on the table lean in that direction, then you can imagine that you don’t want to wait without going to court, he said.

Unna tjerusj and Baste write in their application that the historical evidence in the Girjas case should also apply to them.
