MMORPG New World brings new seasons, an expansion and mounts in 2023

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

New World has finally revealed how the MMORPG will continue in the long term. The focus is on updates that are to appear every 3 months. They contain new story, but also new features such as a dungeon. These updates are combined with season passes. A major expansion with mounts has also been announced for fall 2023.

What exactly is New World’s plan? New World will get a big update every 3 months from now on. The first patch in this rhythm will appear on March 28th and will bring:

  • New story quests centered around a squad of mercenaries called the Silver Crows.
  • The new Expedition Empyrean Forge for level 60 players.
  • The new Mechanic “Gear Set Storage” that allows you to switch between gear sets with just one click.
  • A new Heart Gem ability. The “Fire Storm” creates a tornado that damages multiple targets in its path.
  • The main story overhaul for the Webermoor and Lightwood zones. The story was already adjusted up to level 25 for the fresh start in 2022, and in a very positive way.
  • Also included in the update is a season pass that comes in both a free and paid version. This pass beckons with new skins and rewards and is intended to encourage players to log in regularly.

A season should always last 3 months until a new update, new story and a new pass are published. A total of 4 seasons are planned for 2023, which will include the first raid boss, adjustments to the territories and cross-server dungeons and boss arenas. They were very much wanted in the community.

Is that all there is to content? No, between the big updates there should still be small patches and events. During the first season pass, the rabbits’ revenge and a Spriggan event will take place where you have to defeat bosses in the open world. Also coming is the new Spring Blossom event, where you have to collect blossoms and fight against new enemies. Balance updates are also planned from time to time.

The big highlight, however, will be the new expansion in autumn 2023. This brings new story content, a new dungeon, a new weapon, a new equipment level and mounts!

It is still unclear whether you have to buy the expansion separately or whether it will be free.

Despite everything, the content plan for 2023 sounds significantly better than last year. The biggest problems have been solved and now there is a strong focus on new story and new content. That should make New World more interesting for veterans and frequent players this year.

Season Pass promises unique rewards and boosters, but no Pay2Win

How exactly is the season pass structured? The new pass comes with a total of 100 reward tiers. You increase these tiers by accumulating Season XP. You get these for completing special tasks during a season, but also for faction missions, city quests, dungeons and PvP.

A so-called stamp card is also inserted. On this you will find various daily tasks that you can “stamp”. Each stamp gives Season XP. However, there are more experience points if you create a “BINGO” – i.e. complete a row horizontally, vertically or diagonally.

You level both passes – free and premium – at the same time, whereby you have to be level 25 for the premium pass. However, if you subsequently purchase the Premium Pass, you will receive all rewards retrospectively.

The Season Pass is meant to keep players busy for a while, however, it shouldn’t take the average player 3 months to get all the rewards. It is also valid across the region. So you can progress the pass together with several characters in Europe. However, if you switch to American servers, you will have to start from scratch with the pass.

How expensive is the premium pass? It costs 20,000 lucky tokens – the equivalent of 19.50 euros. The brands can be bought in exactly this number.

    What are the rewards?

  • In the free pass, you’ll get a variety of helpful rewards, including new skins, lucky tokens, emotes, seasonal weapons and armor, shadow shards, plaster spheres, and material supplies.
  • In the premium pass there should also be shadow fragments, plaster balls and materials and other unique skins.
  • Of particular interest are the new boost brands that will be released in both passes, but also newly in the shop.

These are temporary buffs that players should use to unlock faster. For example, there is more area experience for 90 minutes or more experience points when leveling a weapon. However, there will be no advantage in combat.

What are your thoughts on New World’s plans for this year? How do you feel about season passes and the updates every 3 months in general? And what do you think of the new expansion? Feel free to write it in the comments.

By the way, you don’t have to wait until the end of March for new content in New World. A new event boss, Crassus, was only released on Tuesday and will remain in the game for two weeks:
