The Canadian Coast Guard confirmed Thursday the 21-foot Striper boat, which never returned to Big Otter Marina after setting out Tuesday afternoon, was “discovered on shore” in Ohio. Ontario Provincial Police say the boat was found just before 9 am by a citizen walking along the shoreline.

“RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force) search and rescue technicians. . . confirmed it was the individual’s boat, although no one was on board,” Maj. Trevor Reid said in response to Free Press questions.

“The search is continuing for a person in the water,” he added.

Canadian Coast Guard boats and Air Force planes are still involved in the effort, which began late Tuesday nightReid said.

OPP marine units and helicopters, as well as a Bayham fire department boat, are also searching.
