Mikaela Shiffrin: “It’s like learning to walk again”

This weekend, the Alpine World Cup premiere is decided in Sölden, Austria, only giant slalom is run for both the ladies and the men. American star Mikaela Shiffrin will start – last spring she passed Ingemar Stenmark’s 86 World Cup wins and is now the record holder with her 88 VC victories.

The 28-year-old also won the overall World Cup for the fifth time – one more win and she touches Annemarie Moser-Proell’s (Austria) record.

– The motivation comes back to each season. I feel it is OK to build up to my highest level in the first few weeks of competition. Honestly, the season premiere will be the best opportunity to get the best training that we have access to. This slope is the only one that is properly prepared, says Mikaela Shiffrin.

She believes that the result is not the most important thing on Saturday.

– If it feels fantastic on Saturday, then of course I won’t complain. But entering the competition season is always a strange feeling, it’s like learning to walk again, says Shiffrin.

SVT broadcasts the women’s giant slalom in Sölden. 09.50-11.00 on Saturday in SVT1 and Play.
