What is Lethal Weapon on Amazon Prime Video about?

To solve the death of a young woman, the LAPD sends aging family man Detective Murtaugh (Danny Glover) to the scene with suicidal Vietnam veteran Detective Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson). What initially looks like a suicide quickly turns out to be a brutal drug-related murder. But what exactly does Murtaugh’s old friend Hunsacker (Tom Atkins) have to do with it? And why does the entire drug world suddenly seem to be after the lives of the two cops?

A total of four films were made with the Duo Mel Gibson and Danny Glover produced. All of them were directed by Richard Donner (Superman). All four films are popular on Moviepilot, as you can see from the average rating, which always reaches over 7 points:

  • Lethal Weapon – Two Steely Pros (7.5) – at Amazon *
  • Lethal Weapon 2 – Flashpoint LA (7.5) – at Amazon *
  • Lethal Weapon 3 – The Pros Are Back (7.3) – at Amazon *
  • Lethal Weapon 4 – Two professionals clean up (7.2) – at Amazon *
  • All 4 films from the action film series are actually worth watching on Amazon Prime

Anyone who has ever taken a liking to Riggs and Murtaugh can rejoice: the Lethal Weapon films consistently maintain a relatively high level of entertainment. The first two films are the best, in which dialogue expert Shane Black (The Nice Guys) was instrumental in writing the script. From part 3 he was out, but the last two films are also fun.

You can expect routinely staged action with a lot of humor and a consistently good cast. It ranges from Gibson and Glover to relevant names such as Gary Busey, Joe Pesci and Rene Russo. In part 4, the two aging cops even have to deal with Hong Kong superstar Jet Li as a martial arts-savvy villain. There is no lack of brutality either. Part 1 and 4 have an FSK age rating in Germany from 18.

Lethal Weapon 4 wasn’t the end of the action franchise

The fourth and last Lethal Weapon film hit theaters in 1998. Since then, a series reboot has been produced that made it to three seasons. However, the rumors about Lethal Weapon 5 are not diminishing. For a long time, its realization seemed difficult to imagine after racist and anti-Semitic statements by Mel Gibson became known. However, in recent years, the star has been back in bigger Hollywood films. In November 2021, Gibson announced he would to direct Lethal Weapon 5 (via Variety). Since then, the project has remained quiet.
