Medvedev, number one with “mixed emotions”

Medvedev number one with mixed emotions

Daniil Medvedev is the new number one in world tennis for the first time in his career. The Muscovite has dethroned Novak Djokovic after two years of the Serb’s reign. Specifically, the man from Belgrade has been at the top of the ATP ranking since February 3, 2020 without interruption.

For this reason, the Russian wanted to express his gratitude through his social networks to everyone who has helped him achieve the milestone. However, he has also stated that it is “mixed emotions” after everything that happens between Russia and Ukraine.

The tennis player, however professional he may be, is also a person and a citizen of the world. Medvedev is aware of the situation that the world is going through and, especially, his country. In Acapulco he tried not to get into trouble, but he made it clear that there are priorities in life. “Sometimes tennis is not that important,” he said at a press conference, where he also indicated that it was not a day when he was very excited.

Being number one at something is always a cause for celebration, but it’s clearly not the best time for Daniil to celebrate too much.
