Mayor Dijksma: ‘Blackmail by threatening to close is a new phenomenon’

Possibly explosive found at the Kanaalstraat building in Utrecht

Utrecht – It is new for Utrecht that catering entrepreneurs are threatened with closure to extort them. Mayor Sharon Dijksma (PvdA) said this today during question time. Several catering establishments were blackmailed last week by one or more perpetrators. They demanded an amount of 3,200 euros in bitcoins. If the entrepreneur did not pay, the criminals would shoot their premises or put a hand grenade in front of the door, after which the mayor would close the business.
