Neighbors in the multi-family building in southern Stockholm testified how a large police force appeared just before 03:00 on Wednesday night and broke into an apartment.
A 55-year-old woman was found dead there. According to information to TV4 Nyheterna, she had been shot in the head.
After a major effort, the woman’s 36-year-old son was arrested at a location north of Stockholm.
– He was arrested last Friday on probable cause on suspicion of murder and it is true that it is his mother who is deceased, says prosecutor Ellen Sjöberg
New information has now emerged from the night of the murder in question and the police’s intensive hunt.
Surrendered after hours
According to TV4 Nyheternas’ sources with access to the investigation, the police were alerted by a friend of the 36-year-old.
The man, who is now in custody, is said to have called his friend and told him about the murder. Among other things, he allegedly said that he had just shot his own mother to death. The man then fled in a car. The friend in turn then contacted the police, who began a large hunt for the 36-year-old.
After an almost two-hour long effort with, among other things, negotiators, the man turned himself in and determined a place with the police where he could be arrested. In the district court documents, it appears that he was detained at 04.45.
However, in questioning with the police, the 36-year-old denied any crime.
– My client denies the act for which he is in custody and contested the prosecutor’s demands for custody on that basis. Due to restrictions, I cannot say more than that, says lawyer Rodney Humphreys, who represents the man.
Prosecutor: He has given an explanation
The prosecutor states that after the arrest they were able to secure a weapon.
– It must be analysed, you don’t know whether or not it is the one that was used in the crime, says Ellen Sjöberg.
The 36-year-old does not currently appear with any sections in the charge register. However, he was convicted over ten years ago for so-called mass crime and has served a shorter prison sentence.
The police are now investigating what the motive behind the fatal shooting might be.
– He has given an explanation, but I cannot comment on it, but now we have to investigate what has happened.
