Almost 6 years ago, a young man, depressed and drunk, decided to publish a video on YouTube. In it he talked about how much he suffers from his appearance and how lonely he feels. He is now happily married.
What was that video? On January 26, 2018, a young Swede under the name “Never Give Up” spoke on YouTube about his experience of being “ugly.” He reported insults and rejection that he had experienced throughout his life because of his appearance. He has never received a real compliment.
Never Give Up said he searched for videos of people like him on YouTube, but he only found content from good-looking people, which only increased his feeling of loneliness.
The video received more than 20.5 million views and numerous comments. Many viewers identified with Never Give Up, thanked him for his honesty and shared their own experiences.

How did the video change his life? After Never Give Up’s video went viral, he posted periodic updates responding to comments, sharing about his life, or expressing his opinions on topics. He also started live streams in which he played games or chatted with his viewers.
Among the people Never Give Up reached with its video was an American woman who appeared online under the name “Lullaby.” The two began chatting on Discord before meeting and starting a relationship.
But the young man also reported health problems and ups and downs in his life.
How is he today? In 2022, 4 years after his original video, Never Give Up’s life changed drastically again: In a video he announced his separation from Lullaby and talked about his previous experiences with heartbreak.
That same year, however, a new comment appeared under the video that started it all. “I actually think you’re pretty cute, to be honest. I really mean it,” wrote a viewer named “July.” The comment can still be found pinned below the video.
The comments eventually turned into chats in which Juli talked about her own worries and the two became closer. After being in a long-distance relationship for a few months, Juli traveled to Sweden to join Never Give Up.
The two married in 2023 and moved into an apartment together. In another video, the couple talks about the past year. It’s clear to see how much happier Never Give Up is with his life compared to back then.
