Man in his 50s smuggled in 2851 liters of beer

A man in his 50s was sentenced the other day for serious smuggling. He is said to have said in questioning, according to that judgement News24 learned that he had agreed with a person to transport alcohol for him from Germany to Sweden.

He knew that two pallets of beer were placed in his truck, but he did not know that there was more alcohol than that in the truck, he claims in the police interrogation.

The man claims he did not know how much alcohol there was

However, the district court assesses that the man must have understood that there was a risk that the amount of alcohol he had with him was more than he thought.

The man could have easily investigated how much more alcohol was unloaded from the truck, the district court believes.

But since the man has neither examined the space in the truck nor investigated what rules apply to the importation of alcohol into Sweden, the district court believes that the man has been guilty of the act he was charged with, gross smuggling, with intent of indifference.

In connection with importation to Sweden, there have been: 259.40 liters of spirits, 452.40 liters of wine and 2,851.20 liters of beer in the truck.

The total quantity corresponds to 731 liters of 40 percent alcohol.

Due to the large amount of alcohol, the district court believes that it is serious smuggling.

Sentenced to six months in prison

The man is sentenced to six months in prison for serious smuggling. He is also forced to sit in custody until the prison sentence can be carried out.

The man has no connection to Sweden and it is therefore judged that there is a risk that he will stay away if he is released.

The man denies serious smuggling, as he believes that he lacked intent, but admits to smuggling the pallets of beer.
