Police have filed an attempted charge against a Brampton man involved in murder in an Jan. 12 interaction at a gas station where an officer fired his gun.

Devinderjit Singh Hothi, 43, was arrested that day after an “interaction” with an officer who discharged his weapon several times, according to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) that is looking into the event.

A document filed with the courts accuses Hothi of driving his vehicle into a police constable and “pinning him up against a wall.”
Hothi was also charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop when pursued by a police officer, failing to stop after an accident and driving while prohibited.
The incident occurred at the Petro Can gas station at the corner of West Street and Fairview Drive when an officer saw a white van of interest at about 3:30 am, called for assistance and then interacted with the driver.
Police said no one was injured in what followed.
A police spokesperson said a man “led the scene” but was quickly found and arrested on Roy Boulevard.
At the scene on Jan. 12, evidence markers were placed across the gas station property where tire tracks could be seen across grass and a fence was damaged.
The SIU said it has no update on the case at this point and cannot speak to any charge laid by police.
