A Chatham resident faces threatening charges after an argument over text messages and phone calls escalated, Chatham-Kent police say.

Officers responding to a complaint involving two people who had been in an intimate relationship about 8 am Thursday, police said Friday.

An argument over texts and calls between a woman and her ex’s new partner escalated when the ex allegedly threatened the woman and her child, said police, who arrested a suspect.

A Chatham man, 26, is charged with uttering threats to kill and uttering threats to cause bodily harm, police said. He was released with conditions and an Oct. 23 short date.
