Malware shock on Xiaomi phones

Xiaomi users about the company’s smartphones on a controversial claim exists. According to these users, Xiaomi allegedly hacked the Chrome browser on their smartphones. Malware called Mintnav loaded.

There has been no news about how this malware may have infected smartphones. The user who first reported this on Reddit writes:

Hi guys, I recently saw my Google Chrome homepage changed to a site called “Mintnav” on all my Xiaomi phones, be careful when changing it, I couldn’t find any documentation about this site so I think it’s a scam (something I found done by Xiaomi many times)

After receiving the news, many users on Twitter/X also complained about it; one of them even tagged India’s Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology.

When we tried to gather more information about this alleged malware, we encountered a lack of comprehensive details. An instructional website called Howtoremove Guide states: “Mintnav falls under the category of browser hijacking apps, and while it may not do any significant harm directly, it can certainly be a significant source of inconvenience and disruption to your daily web browsing activities.”

While users’ concerns are valid, it is unclear how this unknown program reached Xiaomi phones. We haven’t heard any complaints about Mintnav from users of other brands, so it’s possible that Xiaomi is somehow involved. It is possible that this alleged malware appeared after an update on Xiaomi smartphones.
