Where is Scania really going?
The raspy tongue-root r is being replaced by the tongue-tip r in many Scanians. This is shown by a study recently conducted at the University of Gothenburg.
The image that Scania is losing ground is shared by several Malmö residents that TV4 Nyheterna talks to.
– It might die out, unfortunately. Everything tends more towards the Stockholm woman, because you are exposed to her all the time, says the Scanian Simon Persson who lives in Malmö.
Greta Horn, PhD student at the University of Gothenburg, is interested in how dialects are evened out and in what way.
– In my material, about a quarter use front r, i.e. tip-of-the-tongue-r, while several think they speak the “young Scanian”, she says.
