Maggie & Negan series revolutionizes the franchise with all-new zombies

For over 12 years, The Walking Dead has come up with all sorts of spooky zombie variations. There were walkers that had grown together with nature, radioactive undead or even the iconic spiked zombie that Rick Grimesd had to compete against. They all have one thing in common: they are damn slow.

Over the years, however, the zombies have hardly developed and have lost their menace. That will change with the spin-off The Walking Dead: Dead City, which starts in June. The first long trailer for the Maggie Negan series presents us with two scary ones Horror creatures like we’ve never seen in The Walking Dead.

New The Walking Dead series surprises with running and six-armed zombies

Set two years after the end of The Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: Dead City brings back Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) for a dangerous rescue mission. Together they must travel to New York to rescue the kidnapped Hershel. On the island of Manhattan, cut off from the mainland, some things are different than in the forests of Virginia.

At the end of the new trailer, Maggie finds herself confronted in the New York sewers by an absolute monster that’s already one of the scariest The Walking Dead zombies of all time: a decomposed one Zombie with six arms and two heads!

The Walking Dead: Dead City

Is it a mutation or the result of some horrid experimentation? The disgusting figure immediately raises exciting questions and, with its short trailer appearance, already reveals that Dead City is bringing the long-missed horror back to The Walking Dead universe.

But the trailer hides an even bigger surprise. At minute 1:40 we get a glimpse of that possibly first running The Walking Dead walkers.

A zombie-like figure jumps over the roof of a skyscraper like an acrobatic course runner. If this is indeed a lightning-fast zombie, a real revolution for the franchise awaits us. But this is not entirely unexpected.

The evolution of The Walking Dead zombies has been in preparation for some time. An end credits scene from the spin-off The Walking Dead: World Beyond revealed that aggressive, noisy, and fast moving zombies are terrorizing Europe. And in the final season of the parent series, a “smarter” zombie variant that can climb and take up arms made an appearance.

When does The Walking Dead: Dead City start in Germany?

The Walking Dead: Dead City launches in the United States June 18, 2023 at AMC. The first season consists of six episodes that air weekly. It is not yet clear when and how the series will come to Germany.

The previous The Walking Dead series have been published on Sky, Amazon, Disney+ and Magenta TV. As soon as there is news about the German launch of The Walking Dead: Dead City, we will inform you about it.
