Luleå’s ladies won their sixth straight SC gold in ice hockey: “So damn happy”

Luleas ladies won their sixth straight SC gold in ice

Luleå started the third SC final match against Modo with the gas at the bottom – and after just over two minutes came 1-0 through Anna Kjellbin.

Just a couple of minutes later, it was only great play from the Modo goalkeeper Andrea Brändli which prevented an expansion for Luleå.

Instead, in the second period, Modo would equalize to 1-1 through Adela Sapovalievova, despite a big game advantage for Luleå.

However, the giant Luleå would pull in again. 2–1 came with just over four minutes left in the second period, after Petra Nieminen exploited Modoslarv in the middle zone. Just before the break, 3-1 also came through Linnea Johansson.

— It’s something you’ve dreamed about since you were little. I’m so damn happy. We have the best association behind us and give us the ultimate conditions. We work extremely hard every day, we make demands on each other. We are so damn worthy to stand here, says Johansson, who takes his first SM gold in his career.

Modo, who were in their first SC final since 2014, got a reduction with ten minutes left in the third period. The final result 4–2 came in an open box, after Modo picked out the goalkeeper in his search for an equaliser.

Modo’s Lina Ljungblom was in tears after the final loss.

— We are not good enough. Luleå is good, they are doing it again, as well. It’s sour. We won’t get up to a level we played at earlier in the season, then it could also be Luleå that means we can’t do it, she says.

Luleå won the final series with 3–0 in matches. This is the seventh time that the club has taken home the SM gold on the women’s side.
