Only six percent of Tidöpartierna’s voters support the new gender identity law, according to a survey from Demoskop/Aftonbladet.

– It’s very little with 6 percent in the Tidö block who are in favor of the simplification. It is an expected pattern, but it is unusually low support for new legislation, says Johan Martinsson, head of opinion at Demoskop, to Aftonbladet.

The gender identity bill will make it easier to change your legal gender. In the new bill, a diagnosis of gender dysphoria – that the gender identity does not match the gender at birth and that it means suffering – will not be necessary to change the legal gender. It should be enough with a care contact before.

When asked whether one should be allowed to change legal gender without a medical examination, 85 percent of Tidöpartierna’s voters answer no.

For all respondents in the survey, 20 percent are in favor, 60 percent are against and the rest are doubtful.

– That the law is so unpopular is a little surprising. This is only part of the legislation and many are probably not very familiar, but 20 percent support is low, says Johan Martinsson at Demoskop.

Among voters of S, V, MP and C, 38 percent are against and 34 percent are for the new law.
