looting continues in the streets of Gonaives which are sinking

General uprising in Gonaïves. The population takes to the streets and loots everything in its path. There is no official report, but the damage is considerable. NGOs and Catholic institutions are particularly the target of protesters.

It’s total chaos in Gonaives. The looting scenes continued, very early this Friday morning. The protesters particularly target congregational schools, international organizations, Catholic organizations and large companies.

The demonstrators have already looted more than a dozen companies, and congregational schools, including the Immaculate Conception College. They take away benches, desks and even books. The situation is out of control for the police, as the demonstrators are divided into several groups. They vandalize everything they find on their way.

The crown brewery in Gonaives, cosmetics stores all went under the fury of a very angry crowd. While one group vandalized businesses in the city center, another invaded the United Nations office for the project support service (UNOPS). They carried building materials, iron bars, playwood, sheet metal and celotecs in particular.

For now, the authorities are losing all control. Only one police patrol is noticed in the streets and tries as best they can with great wisdom to limit the damage.
