Local pilots take to the air to view eclipse

Katherine Summers and thousands Jamie Crosbie were among the of people in southwestern Ontario to watch Monday’s solar eclipse.

But they got a much different view.

Instead of standing on the ground and looking up, they got into a plane at Brantford Municipal Airport and experienced it from the sky.

“The eclipse was amazing to see from the air, it was a phenomenal experience,” Summers, the chief flight instructor, Brantford Flight Center and Brantford Aviation College, said. “It was very surprising at how quickly it became dark during the total eclipse.

“It was beautiful to see how the horizon was still lit up as if it were sunset but everything else was as if it was completely night time.”

Summers said other pilots who went up during the eclipse shared many of the same feelings.

Summers and Crosbie shared photos of the eclipse that were taken during their flight.
