Leonardo DiCaprio landed the most important role of his career with Titanic. James Cameron’s billionaire success helped the actor to his big breakthrough. But it almost didn’t happen at all. In a new video, the director reveals that DiCaprio is the Almost screwed up chance for the role himself Has.

Leonardo DiCaprio didn’t want to audition for Titanic at first
In a new YouTube video, James Cameron talks over for GQ the most important films of his career. In addition to milestones such as Aliens – The Return and Avatar – Departure for Pandora, Titanic is of course also part of it.
Today we can’t imagine the blockbuster without DiCaprio, yes back then, the actor didn’t even want to audition for the casting:
He didn’t know he was going to test. He thought it would be another meeting to get to know Kate. So I said, ‘Okay, we’ll just go into the next room and we’ll do a few lines and I’ll video it.’ And he said, ‘You mean I should audition?’ I said yes.’ He said, ‘Oh, I’m not auditioning.’ I shook his hand and said, ‘Thanks for stopping by.’
With that, DiCaprio’s Titanic casting had almost burst. However, the actor went straight back to the director and asked if he wouldn’t get the role if he didn’t audition. Cameron then explained to him that there was no other choice since he spend two years of his life on Titanic would have to and shouldn’t make the wrong decision at the casting stage.
Then, when DiCaprio played a scene with Kate Winslet, James Cameron was immediately sure that he the right leading actor for his blockbuster Has. The rest of the Titanic story is known.
