Leif GW Persson’s flashes of light in the footsteps of the gang war

2023 has been a dark year with several explosions, shooting deaths and bloody gang showdowns.
But Leif GW Persson now sees positive signs.
– Now there are signs that they have succeeded in breaking that, he says in Nyhetsmorgon.

2023 has been a year marked by gang crime. There have been settlements between different groups, record explosions and several shootings. Names such as Foxtrot and “Kurdish fox” have become common knowledge.

Crime expert Leif GW Persson says that they have increasingly targeted those close to the gang criminals and that it is an effective intimidation technique. He believes that there is also less risk of getting caught if you blow something up than if you shoot a gang member.

– It is because you want to reduce the degree of difficulty in causing any damage. This has been done by blowing up their homes. In connection with that, there have been a number of mistakes so that even others who have nothing to do with the matter have crossed out, he says in Nyhetsmorgon.

GW summarizes the crime year 2023

More have ended up in prison

In the midst of the dark year, Leif GW Persson highlights some glimmers of light for the law enforcement officers.

– It is that on some occasions the police have been involved from the beginning and then the outcome legally has been completely different and far much better. There are significantly more who end up in the finca in the final stage. The explanation before has been quite deplorable, but now there are signs that they have succeeded in breaking that, he says.

Leif GW Persson is cautiously positive that the situation is starting to clear up.

– Yes, I would probably say that. Now it has sprung to life ten years later. It is a positive sign, says GW.

Younger offenders in 2023

Something else that stood out in 2023 is the age of the perpetrators. More and more young people commit serious acts of violence – but more and more are also caught.

– The legislature has contributed to this by constantly lowering these age limits. This has meant that the recruitment of children, because they are children, has suddenly taken on a completely different level of importance. The police advantage of that is that kids are kids. They are not as sharp as the slightly older abilities. It also contributes to increased clarification. They are simply not as good at practical things, says GW.
