When it comes to Swedish hockey’s all-time greatest, there are usually three icons who fight for the throne. It is, of course, about Peter Forsberg, Mats Sundin and Nicklas Lidström but then there is a big debate about who was really the best of the trio.

Triss in icons

“Lidas” won the most Stanley Cup titles, while “Sudden” scored the most points in the NHL and “Foppa” can boast the best scoring average. The question is which of the parameters weighs the most in the assessment of the legendary trio.

One thing that is certain is that all three were great hockey players and really dominated in North America. Peter Forsberg won two Stanley Cup titles and scored 885 points in 708 games in the NHL, Nicklas Lidström won four Stanley Cup titles and scored 1,142 points in 1,564 games while Mats Sundin did not win a title but scored 1,349 points in 1,346 matches.

Boork pays homage

In 1994, Boork trained a young super talent in Modo and it is precisely Peter Forsberg that he highlights.
“He is the greatest of all time. He had everything. The passes, the look, the sense of purpose – everything,” says Leif in an old interview with Expressen.

It was in connection with Foppa’s big farewell to his playing career in 2011 that Boork praised the 37-year-old to the skies and also thought he made the right decision to put his skates on the famous shelf.
– He has had problems with the injury and cannot play in the NHL if he is not completely healthy, said the hockey profile to the evening newspaper at the time.
– It is not an easy decision for anyone to make. He must have hesitated back and forth the whole time.
