  • Tens of thousands of women in Sweden may have had genital mutilation

    68,000 girls and women in Sweden may have had genital mutilation, according to new figures from the National Board of Health and Welfare.

    It is an estimate that the authority based on the number of foreign-born women and girls from countries where female genital mutilation occurs.

    It is illegal to carry out genital mutilation in Sweden and to travel abroad to carry it out.

  • Man aged 45 dead after the shooting in Farsta

    A 45-year-old man was killed in the shooting in Farsta last Saturday, the police write on their website.

    The man is a foreign citizen and the police are working to contact relatives.

    A total of four people were shot in the incident. A 15-year-old boy died from his injuries.

  • The government wants to shorten environmental permit processes – appoints an investigation

    The government wants to simplify and shorten permit processes for a faster transition and to make it easier for companies and investments, for, among other things, more nuclear power reactors and offshore wind turbines.

    – Today’s permit processes are too long and too unsustainable, says Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M), at a press conference.

    The government is therefore now appointing an investigation which will, among other things, look at how the regulations can be changed in relation to EU law, how environmental permits should be awarded and how the authorities can contribute to faster environmental permit processes.

    The investigation must be reported on 15 December 2024 with the goal that the decisions will come into force during the current mandate period.

    In addition to Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, Energy and Food Minister Ebba Busch (KD), Climate and Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari (L) and Martin Kinnunen, the Sweden Democrats’ climate and environmental policy spokesperson, participated.

  • Malmö school requires 400,000 kroner

    A school in Malmö has discriminated against a student with a neuropsychiatric disability. That is the opinion of the discrimination ombudsman (DO), who sued the municipality for SEK 400,000.

    DO considers that the school has not adapted the teaching sufficiently for the student who has a neuropsychiatric disability.

    The school inspectorate has also rejected the school’s handling of the student.

  • 35-year-old man charged – stabbed girl in Gothenburg

    A 35-year-old man is charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault after attacking a ten-year-old girl while she was with her grandmother and grandfather.

    The man attacked with a knife and stabbed the girl in the stomach. She was badly injured.

    The incident took place in Brunnsparken in Gothenburg in March.

  • Ten dead after bus accident in Sydney

    A bus carrying 40 passengers overturned in a roundabout late Sunday outside Sydney local time.

    Ten people have been confirmed dead and 25 people have been taken to hospital, local media write.

    The bus driver, a 58-year-old man, has been arrested after the accident.

    – He is arrested. He has driven a motor vehicle that has been involved in a fatal accident and may be prosecuted, says police spokesperson Tracy Chapman according to TT.

  • Suspected bomb in Hässelby – police on site

    Police, rescue services and an ambulance have been on the scene in Hässelby since 03:47 when an alarm was received about a suspected bomb at an apartment building in Hässelby, according to information to Aftonbladet.

    At 08:00, the police still have cordons around the scene.

    The item has been removed from the scene and the police have started a preliminary investigation into attempted public destruction.

  • ICC investigates dam collapse in Ukraine

    The International Criminal Court, ICC, has now begun an investigation into the dam collapse in Kakhovka, Ukraine. This is what President Zelenskyy says in a situation update published late last night, reported The Guardian.

  • Glass factory in Orrefors destroyed

    A glass factory in Orrefors, outside Nybro, has burned down during the night.

    A guard company discovered the fire and alerted the emergency services, according to P4 Kalmar. The glass factory was on fire and could not be saved.

    Because there were oxygen tubes in the building, there was a risk of explosion.

    According to SVT, the glass cabin was the last active one in Orrefors.

  • Households believe in higher house prices

    The proportion of households predicting higher housing prices in the future has increased. This is shown by SEB’s latest housing price indicator, reports TT.

  • Expert: Increased risk of more acts of violence

  • Russia and Ukraine exchanged 200 prisoners of war

    Yesterday, Russia and Ukraine exchanged up to 200 prisoners of war, report CNN citing authorities from both Moscow and Kiev.

    According to President Zelenskyi’s chief of staff Andriy Yermak is 95 of the POWs were from Ukraine and some of them were captured from, among others, Snake Island and the Azovstal steelworks at Mariupol. This is evident from a post by Yermak on Twitter.

    Some of them are said to have been held by the Wagner Group.

    94 of the prisoners of war are Russian and according to Russian authorities, they must be examined by doctors before they are sent home to their families in Russia, reports CNN.

  • Police search for missing woman

    The police are looking for a woman in her 80s in Säter and the surrounding area.

    A helicopter with a thermal imaging camera has participated in the search.

    At the time of her disappearance, the woman was wearing a gray jacket, gray-brown trousers and blue trainers. She has dark hair with gray streaks and wears glasses.
