  • Teenage boy missing on Gotland – major search effort

    A large search effort is underway in southern Gotland where a teenage boy has gone missing, Hela Gotland reports.

    The alarm came at 04:45.

    The boy must have taken the ferry to Fårö during the Monday evening. With Friends.

    – This boy has somehow gotten away from his friends, why he has done it is unclear. They are said to have then called in and raised the alarm that they had lost him and searched but failed to find him, says Rebecca Landberg to the newspaper.

  • Gang assaulted man – was hanged over the fence

    At three o’clock the police were alerted to an assault on Järntorget in Gothenburg.

    – We received information that a group of men abused another man. According to witnesses, the gang would have hung the man over a fence, says police spokesperson Jens Andersson to GP.

    He allegedly received punches and kicks and was also threatened with a knife, according to the newspaper.

    Three men have been arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault.

  • Heavy fire – VMA issued

    A VMA has been issued after a heavy fire at an industry in Skelleftehamn in Skellefteå. Everyone living in the area is asked to close doors and windows.

    There is a risk of spreading and dangerous smoke spreads.

    – It is a fully developed fire. There are other buildings all around, so we work to prevent spreading, says the officer on duty at the rescue cooperation north.

    It has been burning since 2:30 a.m., but the situation is still not under control.

    There is a strong fire in several houses in Björnen in Åre and there is a risk of spreading, according to the rescue service.

    – Four houses are completely damaged. We are working hard and trying to prevent the spread, says Mikael Lundberg, officer on duty at Rescue Region in Mittnorrland.

    According to the emergency services, no one should have been injured.

    14 percent of voters are unsure which party they sympathize with, according to Swedish Voter Opinion’s survey in May, a compilation of opinion polls conducted by Kantar Sifo for Ekot.

    This is an increase from April, when the figure was 10.5 percent.

    Toivo Sjörén, who is head of opinion at Kantar Public, tells Ekot that a voter who previously sympathized with a party may have become a little unsure about it and chose to be more of a couch potato for a while.

  • Treat Williams’ death in motorbike accident

    Actor Treat Williams has died in a traffic accident while riding his motorcycle on a road in Vermont on Monday.

    This is stated by his agent Barry McPherson for People magazine.

    – He was killed during the afternoon. He was about to turn and a car ran into him, he says.

    The emergency services in the area confirm the incident, but have not released the identity of the deceased.

    Williams broke through in the film “Hair” in 1979. He has appeared in a number of Hollywood films and television series.

    A heavy fire rages in the Rönnskärsverken in Skelleftehamn.

    The alarm came in at 2:25 a.m. and an Important Public Notice (VMA) has been issued warning of toxic smoke and asking the public to go indoors and close doors, windows and ventilation.

    – This could probably develop into a serious fire, says David Levy, officer on duty at police region North.

    No one should be injured according to early information.

    – It must burn with open flames and the rescue service has several resources that are on their way. There is probably no risk of it spreading to buildings considering that it is in the harbor out in the water, but there is heavy smoke development, says David Levy.

    Rönnskärsverken in Skelleftehamn is located in Skellefteå municipality and is Sweden’s only smelter for the production of base metals, and works with the recycling of electronic scrap. (TT)

  • Teachers are sentenced to prison after child pornography offences

    A teacher in Jämtland has been sentenced to six months in prison for serious child pornography offences.

    The teacher was charged in May 2022 with possession and offensive photography after the police found thousands of files with gross child pornography material, writes Länstidningen Östersund.

    The man, who was active as a teacher, is now convicted of serious child pornography offences, dissemination of the material and offensive photography.

    The crimes did not take place in a school environment and the man is no longer employed by the school. (TT)

  • IAEA chief to Ukraine

    The head of the UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA, Rafael Grossi, is traveling to Ukraine to review safety at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant following last week’s dam collapse.

    “En route to Ukraine to meet President Zelensky and present an aid program in the aftermath of the catastrophic flood,” writes Grossi on Twitter.

    The IAEA is to strengthen its expert team that oversees safety at the nuclear power plant, he adds. (TT)

  • Volcano spews lava – thousands have fled

    The Philippines’ most active volcano, Mayon, has erupted.

    Already on Thursday, the warning level was raised to three out of five, which means that the volcano’s activity is worrying.

    During the night of Monday, the volcano began spewing lava, prompting authorities to evacuate nearly 13,000 people living within a radius of six kilometers, writes CNN.

    Mayon is located on the country’s largest island, Luzon, around 330 kilometers southeast of Manila.

    There are 24 active volcanoes in the Philippines. The most recent eruption occurred in 2018.

  • USA: Man killed by flesh-eating bacteria in oysters

    A 54-year-old man from Missouri, USA, has died of flesh-eating bacteria, reports BNO News.

    The man contracted the bacteria from raw oysters he bought at a local store.

    According to the Ministry of Health in St. Louis the man was infected by Vibrio vulnificus, a flesh-eating bacteria that can be found in oysters and other shellfish

    “There is no evidence that the store did anything to poison the oysters, which were probably already contaminated when they arrived,” the health ministry said in a statement.

    The reason for where the oysters come from is still being investigated.

    At 20.02, the police were alerted to Södermalm in Stockholm about a serious assault, the police write.

    The man said he felt dizzy and had a head injury.

    Three suspected perpetrators were arrested at Zinkensdamm subway station following information received by the police.

    The man was taken to hospital by the police.

    May 2023 qualifies for shared second place as the warmest month of May globally ever, writes TT.

    Only May 2020 was hotter.

    However, the surface temperature of the world’s oceans was the highest ever recorded.

    The highest temperature of the month was measured in African Chad, where it was 47.8 degrees on May 25.

    In Europe, the highest temperature was recorded in Coin on May 9 at 37.9 degrees.

  • The Dutch move: free sunscreen for everyone

    Residents of the Netherlands will be offered free sunscreen this summer in an effort to reduce the country’s record number of skin cancer cases, reports the Guardian.

    Sunscreen containers will be available at schools, universities, festivals, parks and other public places across the country.

    According to the paper, it was a dermatologist who came up with the idea after being inspired by hand sanitizer containers during the pandemic.
