Swedish man dies in avalanche in Italy

A Swedish man in his 50s has died after an avalanche occurred in Marmora in the Italian Alps on Thursday.

The man was a mountain guide and, according to the site La Guida, was up on a mountain slope with four others when the avalanche was triggered.

Rescuers were able to dig him out of the avalanche after he was found with an avalanche probe.

Despite resuscitation attempts, his life could not be saved.

The Foreign Ministry confirms the death.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs can confirm that a Swedish man in his 50s died on March 9 in an avalanche accident in the Italian Alps,” the press service writes in an email.
