Lambton public health officials are urging extra caution amid a recent spike in opioid overdoses.
The health unit said Tuesday afternoon it’s received reports of 10 suspected opioid overdoses during a five-day period starting June 29.
“This is higher than average compared to recent monitoring data,” the health unit said.
Public health officials are recommending caution when using opioids or non-prescription drugs. They suggest carrying a naloxone kit and knowing the signs of an overdose; they urge users not to mix opioids with alcohol or other drugs or never use them alone. Free naloxone kits are available from the health unit, local pharmacies, and several other local agencies such as community health centres.
