An official press release from Buckingham Palace informed us last night: King Charles III is suffering from cancer, discovered during his last surgery. Our details with Dr Gérald Kierzek, medical director of Doctissimo.

In an official press release published Monday evening, February 5, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles III is currently suffering from cancer, without specifying its nature. An announcement which comes just a few days after his surgery for an enlarged prostate, which however would not be the site of his cancer.
A “form of cancer” detected during his hospitalization
“Her Majesty was treated for benign prostatic hypertrophy. It was during this procedure that the distinct area of concern was noted and subsequently diagnosed as a form of cancer. This second pathology will now benefit from appropriate treatment,” underlines the spokesperson. Following this diagnosis, doctors advised King Charles III to suspend all public functions for the time being. However, he would continue to work despite his treatment, which he has already started.

According to Dr. Gérald Kierzek, medical director of Doctissimo, there are two possibilities:
“It’s not prostate cancer. There are two possibilities left in my opinion:
- Either it’s a cancer detected during the pre-operative assessment because he’s a king, he may have had a rather extensive assessment, MRI, CT scan, blood tests, perhaps tumor markers and the doctors failed on an anomaly, a cancer either solid or liquid.
- Either it is a cancer detected during the intervention and by doing the cystoscopy, they noticed that there was something in the bladder; Or they took advantage of general anesthesia to carry out another examination such as colonoscopy. In any case, they realized the presence of cancer thanks to this intervention.”
It’s difficult to say much more without having the medical file in front of you.

The choice of transparency to avoid any speculation
The official press release, rather sober, emphasizes that the king “remains totally positive” regarding its treatment. It also specifies the desire to communicate openly to the British people.
