King Charles has cancer – already started treatment

It was during a check-up of the prostate that the cancer was discovered, but according to Buckingham Palace it should not be prostate cancer.

What type of cancer the 75-year-old has suffered from is still unclear and so is the prognosis.

Treatment for the cancer has already begun and Buckingham Palace says the king is “taking a positive approach to his treatment and looks forward to returning to full duty as soon as possible”.

Postponing commitments

The King will postpone his public engagements, handing over responsibilities to other senior royals. Despite this, Charles will continue his role as head of state, which includes both paperwork and private meetings.

Charles became king on September 8, 2022, when Queen Elizabeth died. At 73, he thus became the oldest person in British history to become a monarch. He was crowned together with his wife Camilla on 6 May 2023.
