Kill suspected robbers – charged with double murder

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

A 22-year-old man and his girlfriend were woken up in the middle of the night by masked people who had broken glass windows and entered their home in Ulricehamn. Then the man stabbed two of the suspected robbers to death – and has now been charged with double murder. – I acted to protect myself and my girlfriend in self-defense, he says in questioning. The drama unfolded at 01:00 on September 14 last year. The owner of the apartment, a 22-year-old man, and his girlfriend were sleeping when they heard someone pull on the front door and ring the doorbell several times. – We hear the neighbor open his door and close it. We start to think, yes, maybe it was someone who was going to the neighbor, who had gone wrong or I don’t know if it was a friend of that person. So we go back to bed. Yes, and can’t really sleep because it was really, really scary if you say so, says the man. Says he’s “just trying to survive” As they tried to go back to sleep, new sounds were heard, this time from outside and not from the stairwell. They both got up and looked out the window. – You see shadows of people coming up to the balcony. We live three floors up, so they have climbed up there. The couple wanted to escape through the front door, but then noticed that someone was also standing in the stairwell. – Then when I stand by the door there, you hear how the window is smashed from the balcony door. And they, they come in then. – It feels like I’m in a horror movie, I’m completely terrified. The 22-year-old armed himself with a hunting knife. The perpetrators jumped in through the broken glass pane on the balcony. – Then I run, run straight ahead from the hall to the kitchen, I don’t make it much further than that before they come and, they grab me and I’m… I’m terrified, I don’t know what to do, I feel that me, they will take me, they will take NN (girlfriend), I don’t know what… what they will do with us. The man then used the hunting knife and started stabbing the perpetrators. He says he’s “just trying to survive”. The two perpetrators were stabbed in the commotion. – Around 1 o’clock, both XX and I flew up, there was pounding and shouting in the stairwell. At first I thought it was a party but it wasn’t. It sounded like there were guys in the stairwell. We also heard a woman who screamed very loudly, says a neighbor later in the interrogation. Murder accused claims emergency defense When senior prosecutor Martin Svensson brought charges on Thursday, it concerned two parallel investigations, which he calls “a very special case”. The first is that the 22-year-old is suspected of murder or aggravated assault and aggravated assault. – In summary, the apartment owner found himself in an emergency situation and thus had the right to defend himself. However, my view is that the violence he used was clearly indefensible and he should not be exempt from responsibility due to so-called emergency defense excess. In an overall assessment, I believe that the intentional killing is to be considered less serious and have therefore classified it as two cases of murder, says Martin Svensson in a press release. The second part of the indictment concerns robbery plans. A total of five people made it to the 22-year-old’s apartment on the night in question, two of whom broke in and were stabbed to death. Two additional men, aged 18 and 23 respectively, were in the stairwell. A 21-year-old woman was outside the apartment building. The 18- and 23-year-olds are charged with attempted aggravated robbery after planning to steal cash and clothes from the apartment owner, according to the lawsuit. The woman is suspected of aiding and abetting the crime by having “planned and encouraged the execution of the act”. Alternatively, she is suspected of grossly protecting a criminal. The trial begins during Easter week and will, among other things, examine the question of how much force can be used in an emergency situation. – I just think I’m going to wake up and that it’s a dream, says the 22-year-old in questioning and cries.
