Kiefer honored for community service

A member of The Rotary Club of Norfolk Sunrise has been honored for her service to the club and the community.

Joanne Kiefer was recently recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow. Named after the founder of Rotary, the award recognizes outstanding public service and volunteerism and is Rotary’s highest honor.

The honor was presented to Kiefer at a recent Rotary Sunrise meeting held at the Lynnwood Arts Centre.
Kiefer was described as one of the club’s strongest members, quietly serving in leadership roles,

“Over the years, Joanne has capably lead several of the club’s committees but her strong suit is taking on community work that just needs to be done,” the club said in a statement announcing the honor. “Joanne has coordinated and improved upon the club’s Salvation Army festive season collection programs.

Kiefer also led efforts to collect and re-distribute hygiene products to those in need. As well, she has been dedicated to the task of sending e-cards to club members in need.

An active member of the public image committee, Kiefer learned how to deal with the media and has had a very positive effect on getting great exposure for the club. She is also a supporter and volunteer for the local Strong Start program.

The program helps children age 5-7 years who are struggling with reading skills.
